Does my watch need to be serviced, or just a new battery?

When does my battery operated watch need to be serviced?

The question that is always asked.  “When do I need to have my watch serviced?”  The real answer is, it will tell you.  Here are a few signs that your battery operated watch needs to be serviced.

1) It stops working.

2) The Seconds hand moves in 5 second intervals instead of 1 second intervals.

These are the obvious signs of when a quartz or battery operated watch needs to be serviced.  However there are a few things that a watch can’t tell you.

1) Gaskets are worn out

– Preventing the watch from being water resistant.  Even if you don’t go swimming this could just be washing your hands…

2) The Crown and Tube are worn out preventing you from setting the date properly.

3) Batteris have a shelf life.  The battery inside your watch may be working however it could be leaking slowly causing the acid inside the battery to corrode the other parts inside the watch.  Causing much worse damage leading to replacing the entire movement.
